We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Civil Engineer to join our Consulting Structures Team. With shared office space in our Perth, Motherwell and Edinburgh we invite applications from across the Scotland.
The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, but we offer a range of flexible working practices, including hybrid, part-time and flexible working patterns. Amey Consulting Scotland Team are involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects across Scotland with cumulative values in excess of £1bn.
Amey manages both the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, with the Southwest being awarded in 2020 and the Northeast in 2022. These are 8-year contracts, extendable up to 12 years. In addition to these long-term contracts, we also have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges and transportation and civil design projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and established contractors across the country.
These long-term contracts provide excellent opportunities for technical, engineering, and professional design staff at all stages of their careers to be involved in some of the most exciting and challenging engineering projects associated with Scotland’s arterial road network.
What you will be doing
Our Civil Engineers play an important part within the Design team and alongside our client, Transport Scotland.
Responsibilities include:
- To work in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised and supervising more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks.
- The preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme. Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions.
- Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries etc.
- Managing a small, locally based single discipline technical team and taking responsibility for delivery of workload.
- Contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work winning function.
- Working on site, either on a visiting basis or in a full time but temporary role and including out of hours working.
We want to hear from you if you have:
- A Degree/Masters qualification in a relevant discipline
- Relevant experience in highway engineering, particularly local roads and S278 layouts
- The ability to work in a commercial and customer focused way which achieves programme, meets performance targets and generates income
- Be confident to work under minimum supervision and competent to check the work of others and supervise less experienced or junior staff
- A good understanding of Manual for Streets, DMRB, other national standards, best practice guidance, local standards etc.
- A good understanding of the CDM regulations and their relevance to highway design
- The ability to support the preparation of briefs for fee quotes for delivery of services when required
- Can deliver on time, within budget and to the quality required
- Keep up to date with industry best practice and where appropriate apply best practice within the team
